Care Of Your Newly Installed Lawn

MOWING

About 2-3 weeks after installation your new lawn may need mowing. It is important to let your lawn dry out for a day or two so it firms up a bit before mowing. Make sure that the mowing height is set at 3 inches or higher. Letting your lawn grow a little longer is good for the grass because it encourages a strong root system. Never mow shorter than 2 inches and never remove more than one-third of the grass leaf at any one mowing. Not bagging your grass is a great idea. It returns the clippings to the lawn so they can decompose and provide added nutrients. It is also important to keep your mower blades sharp. A dull blade will shred the tops of the grass blades, discolor the lawn and invite disease. The mower blade should be sharpened twice a year.

FERTILIZING TREES AND SHRUBS

Your newly planted trees and shrubs have been fertilized. We recommend the following fertilization schedule for your trees and shrubs.

  1. Deciduous Trees-Evergreen Trees– Twelve months after planting, using tree stakes, or full-purpose granular feed according to package directions.
  2. Deciduous Shrubs-Evergreen Shrubs– Spring and Fall using a liquid or granular fertilizer such as 10-10-10. Check packaging directions.
  3. Annuals-Perennials– Spring through June using liquid or granular fertilizer such as 10-10-10. Use according to package directions.

  2. Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual appeal. I must say you’ve done a fantastic job with this. In addition, the blog loads super quick for me on Opera. Excellent Blog!
